SCORES

What “Not Your Credit Score” Actually Means

Next to the Behavior Score there is a small pill that says what it is not. Here is why that line matters.

On the Fingene Home screen, next to a number from 0 to 100, there is a small label: Not your credit score. We put it there deliberately, and we want to explain why.

Two numbers, two jobs

A credit score is built for lenders. It summarises repayment history to help decide whether to lend. Its audience is a bank, and its consequences are real: it can affect what you are offered.

The Behavior Score is built for you. It describes your recent behaviour from your own check-ins and entries, so you can notice a direction. Its audience is you, and it has no consequences outside the app.

One is a lender’s view of you. The other is your view of yourself.

What follows from that

  • The Behavior Score is never shared with a bank, a lender or an employer
  • It cannot affect your ability to borrow
  • It does not rank you against other people
  • It goes up and down, and a lower stretch is information, not a grade

Why bother saying it

Because the word “score” carries weight. A number out of 100 can feel like a grade, and money already comes with more shame than most topics. To be clear: this is a mirror, not a judgement.

We also keep the exact workings private, and the app never shows a formula. What you see is the figure, a short explanation, and “still learning you” when there isn't enough data yet.

A question to sit with

What would change in how you look at your finances if no number ever left your own screen?
