How Labsworks.

What a working paper is, how we label how sure we are, and what we keep private. Short, and meant to be checked.

Evidence labels

How sure we are, in four words.

Everything Labs publishes carries one of these labels, so you can tell an early idea from a settled finding.

LabelWhat it meansHow to treat it
IdeaA question or a framing we find usefulA prompt for thinking, nothing more
HypothesisA specific claim we think may be true, not yet testedInteresting, but not established
Early findingSomething we have seen in limited data, with the limits statedSuggestive. Expect revision
ValidatedTested in a way we describe, with results publishedReasonably solid, still open to challenge
How we publish

Clear steps, every time.

  • State the question

Every paper begins by saying exactly what it is trying to find out.

  • Show the reasoning

We explain why we think what we think, so you can disagree with a step rather than a conclusion.

  • Link the sources

Where we draw on public studies or data, we cite them with links.

  • State the limits

Every paper says what it cannot tell you.

  • Revise in the open

If we change our mind, we say so and say why.

Public and private

What you will, and will not, see.

We publish

Outcomes and reasoning

  • What we found and why it matters
  • How strong the evidence is
  • The limits of the work
  • Corrections when we get things wrong
We keep private

The inner workings

  • The exact way the product reaches its answers
  • Any formula, weighting or score construction
  • Individual users’ data, always
  • Anything that would let someone copy the engine
About “the app never shows a formula.”

You will not find equations, model names or Greek letters in the app or on this site. That's a design choice: if we can't say it simply, it doesn't ship. It is also why the evidence labels above matter. They tell you how much to lean on what we say without asking you to take a formula on trust.

Questions

Asked often.

Not unless a paper says so. A working paper is an early, openly shared piece of work.

Yes, please. Write to support@thefingene.com with the paper and the point. We read every message and will respond in public where it helps others.

No. It looks at human behaviour, and it never rates or recommends any security.
